DR. BENEDICT C. OKPALA (MBBS, FAGP, DMP)
MD/CEO

Dr. Okpala holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos and has actively worked in the Health Sector for over 37 years as a Medical Practitioner. His career path has led him through various parts, within and outside Nigeria. As a young doctor, he carried out his housemanship at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria. His mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program was in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State where he was in charge of 19 maternity houses and 21 medical centers.

Upon completion of his NYSC, Dr. Okpala went on to work at various hospitals in Nigeria including LUTH, Anambra State Health Management Board, Ministry of Defense Hospital Enugu, Air Force Hospital Enugu and Air Force Hospital Port Harcourt. Currently, he serves as the Medical Director of Rivon Clinic, Port Harcourt, a position he has held since 1982.

Dr. Okpala’s past experience includes the following:

Coordinator Federal Health MDG for children under 5 years and pregnant women in Bayelsa State.

In addition to his role as the Chief Executive Director of UCHM, Dr. Okpala currently holds the following positions:

He is also actively involved in various community services in his home town and in Rivers State. In November 2010, he was conferred with Pontificial Honours of Pope Benedict XVI for his contributions to the church and the state.

His outstanding services as a Medical Practitioner has earned him various awards and fellowships including Fellow of Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (FAGP) and Distinguished Medical Practitioner of Nigeria (DMP).

Dr. Okpala is blessed with a wife and seven children. He spends his free time keeping track of the news and playing tennis.

DR. UZOUKWU NELSON ODIKEMERE UWAGA
Director

Dr. Uzoukwu N.O. Uwaga (fondly called UNO by friends and colleagues) holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and Master of Business Administration (MBA Mgt.) degree from the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT). He also attended the Senior Executive Course 28 of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru Jos.

He has over 33 years of professional and managerial experiences within and outside Nigeria in the Health Sector. He was a member of the National Conference (CONFAB), 2014. He is an Alumnus and member of the National Institute of Management (Chartered) (NIM) where he currently serves as the 19th President. Dr. Uwaga is also a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (FPSN) and the West African Post–Graduate College of Pharmacists (FPCPham). He is a former National President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and a onetime 3rd World Representative at the International Pharmaceutical Federation (IPE) at The Hague, Netherlands and also a former Vice President of the Association of Professional bodies of Nigeria (APBN).

Currently, he is a member of the Institute of Directors (MIoD), a Paul Harris Fellow, the Chairman, Faculty of Community Pharmacy of the West African Post-Graduate College of Pharmacy and a member of the Court of Examiners. He also serves as a Senior Lecturer (Adjunct) at the faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

He Dr. Uwaga is a Clinical Community/Industrial Pharmacist and has served on the board of several State and Federal Parastatals. In addition to serving as an Executive Director of United Comprehensive Health Managers Ltd. (UCHM), he also serves as the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Barata Pharmaceutical and Co. Ltd and Condios Nig. Ltd.

He is married with five children.

ALABO PROFESSOR ROLLINGS SOPIRINYE JAMABO MNIM, MBBS (Lagos), D.Obst. (Ireland), FRCS (Ireland), FWACS, FICS
Director

Professor Rollings Sopirinye Jamabo was born on the 9th of October, 1952 at the then Old General Hospital, Port Harcourt. He attended Primary School at St. Jude’s Primary school, Ebute metta, Lagos and Ogoloma Town School, Ogoloma Okrika. He enrolled in the Okrika Grammar school, Okrika in 1964 but his stay at the school came to an abrupt end in July, 1967 at the beginning of the civil war. He thereafter completed his Secondary School education in 1970 at the Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borikiri, Port Harcourt.

In September, 1971 he was admitted into the University of Lagos to study medicine. He graduated in March 1977 and was awarded the MBBS Degree. His compulsory National Youth Service Corps Program (NYSC) was in Okitipupa, Ondo State from April 1978 to May 1979.
Being a recipient of a three-year in-service training by the Rivers State Government, he left Nigeria in September, 1980 for the United Kingdom to start a residency program in surgery. The surgical training program exposed him to various hospitals in London and its environs, notably the great Guy’s Hospitals and the Lewisham Hospitals rotations. On completion of the surgical training, he also went through an Obstetrics and Gynaecology rotation.

He obtained the FRCS (Dublin) (Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons) in 1985 and the D.Obst.(Dublin)(Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology) in 1986. The vast knowledge and experience he gained from these hospitals in the U.K. prepared him for the onerous task ahead as a Medical Practitioner in Nigeria.

He returned home in March, 1987 and commenced work at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital as a Consultant Surgeon and at the University of Port Harcourt as a Lecturer. He was promoted to the rank of a Senior Lecturer in October, 2004 and to that of a Professor of Surgery in June, 2014. As a Surgeon, his interest lies in diseases of the breast and the oncology of cancers generally.

He has Forty (40) published articles in reputable National and International Journals to his credit and in collaboration with other colleagues in the country. He has various on-going researches in breast diseases.

He has been an Examiner in General Surgery for Parts 1 & 2 FWACS examination of the West African College of Surgeons from 2007 up till date. He is also an External Examiner to some Medical schools in Nigeria for their Final MBBS Examinations.

In view of his accomplishment in the field of Surgery, he was awarded honorary Fellowship of the International College of Surgeons (FICS) in 1991 and that of the West African College of Surgeon (FWACS) in 1992.

He was awarded membership of the Institute of Management of Nigeria (MNIM) in November, 2015.

Professor Ndubuisi Eke was born on August 22, 1950 at Umungwa Obuwu. Professor Eke hails from Umungwa Obokwu LGA in Imo State and also he is a university lecturer and consultant surgeon/urologist. He is married with 3 children.

Honorary Consultant Urologist, University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital March 1 1989 to date
Professor of Surgery, University of Port Harcourt October 2002 to date.
In these positions he have been more deeply involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education as well as examination of both groups of students in the University of Port Harcourt and other Universities where I am an external examiner. Presently, he is an alternate examiner for the West African College of Surgeons.

PUBLICATIONS

He presented several scientific papers in local and international conferences and published more than 65 papers in local, foreign and international journals of repute including the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical Journal, the British Medical Journal, the British Journal of Surgery, the British Journal of Urology International, the American Journal of Gastroenterology and International Surgery. One of my topical review papers on female genital mutilation was published in the World Journal of Surgery.

He was elected Secretary for the African Federation of the International College of Surgeons in Brisbane, Australia effective January 2013 to December 31, 2014.

Widely travelled to Europe, USA, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Australia and Taiwan.
